Mr. Prince Henry Anim Owiredu, the National Democratic Congress 2024 parliamentary candidate for Okere Constituency in the Eastern Region, is aspiring to become District Chief Executive to effectively address the area’s development needs.
Mr. Owiredu, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the Yilo Krobo NDC victory party at Somanya, announced that he had submitted application to be considered for the DCE position.
He said the decision was made to demonstrate to the people of the area his talents, abilities, and capabilities if he had been elected as a Member of Parliament. “To be honest, Dan Botwe did a lot of work in Okere, therefore if you want to take his seat, you must do the same, which is exactly what I intend to do for the next four years as DCE,” he said.
However, he stated that there remained many challenges regarding infrastructure development, particularly the poor condition of the roads and road network, which needed to be tackled. “There are many unmotorable roads in Okere, and as a DCE, I’m going to advocate for numerous road projects so that we can address the area’s road issues and expand the number of secondary schools, which will allow the area to receive its share of the E-block,” he added.
He also envisioned to work hard on healthcare, education, and employment, especially for the youth. He noted that once all the roads, including Kyekyeku, Ntronan, and Akyeremanteng, were fixed, the 2028 elections would be a done deal, enabling him to undoubtedly replace the New Patriotic Party.
He emphasized that because Okere is a farming community that produced mangoes, tomatoes, cassava, and other crops, the area will receive both a mango and a cassava factory, which will promote farming, create jobs, and bolster productivity.
