Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama has provided financial support to Emmanuel Asamoah, a Ghanaian affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa, by offering him GH¢200,000 as seed capital to help him restart his life and establish a business in Ghana.
According to Fred Duhoe, Ibrahim Mahama also pledged to set up a cement and hardware distribution depot for Emmanuel Asamoah in Accra to support his economic reintegration.
During a meeting on Tuesday, May 12, involving Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quashie, and Emmanuel Asamoah, the businessman encouraged other Ghanaians living in South Africa to consider returning home.
He assured them that there are opportunities available in Ghana and pledged support for those willing to return and rebuild their lives locally.
The intervention comes amid renewed concerns over the safety and welfare of African migrants in parts of South Africa, where xenophobic violence has over the years affected several foreign nationals, including Ghanaians.
