Vice-President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has commissioned five newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners-designate to represent Ghana in strategic countries.
The envoys were commissioned on Thursday, August 13, 2026, with their postings covering Sierra Leone, Norway, Kuwait, Nigeria and Niger.
The newly commissioned diplomats are Dr. Robert Afriyie, High Commissioner-designate to Sierra Leone; Dr. Senalor Kwabla Yawlui, Ambassador-designate to Norway; Maxwell Nyarko-Lartey, Ambassador-designate to Kuwait; Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria; and Isaac Joshua Essilfie, Ambassador-designate to Niger.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang charged the envoys to protect Ghana’s national interests, deepen diplomatic and bilateral relations with their respective host countries and advance Ghana’s interests on the international stage.
She also urged them to represent the country with professionalism and ensure that their diplomatic engagements contribute to Ghana’s development and international standing.
For Kuwait, the Ambassador-designate was directed to consolidate bilateral ties, resolve outstanding issues, promote trade and investment, and strengthen engagement with the Ghanaian community to enhance their welfare and contributions to Ghana’s development.
The High Commissioner-designate to Sierra Leone was tasked with sustaining the momentum from the recent Ghana-Sierra Leone Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation and translating its outcomes into tangible results while protecting the interests of Ghanaians.
In Nigeria, the new High Commissioner is expected to deepen political and economic cooperation, promote trade and investment, and work with Nigerian authorities to safeguard the interests of Ghanaians
For Niger, the Ambassador-designate was tasked with deepening Ghana’s engagement with the country and the wider Sahel region, building on President John Mahama’s 2025 visit to Niamey and Ghana’s support for peace and stability in the region.
The Ambassador-designate to Norway was encouraged to explore opportunities for cooperation in green technology, education, the blue economy and research, while drawing lessons from Norway’s experience in effective resource management.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured the envoys of government’s support and urged them to serve with distinction and deliver on the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) launched by President John Mahama in September 2025.
Speaking on behalf of the envoys, Dr. Robert Afriyie expressed gratitude to the President for their appointments and assured the Vice-President of their commitment to serving diligently and contributing to Ghana’s development.
