The Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe have made a cash donation of GHc11, 000.00 to support Mr Dauda Nuhu alias “Master Run” a volunteer in road traffic control in the Kamgbunli community,

The donation follows a recognition of Mr Nuhu’s avowed commitment to control traffic for 18 years to pave way for school children who crossed the road to the other part of the town at the Kamgbunli intersection on the Takoradi -Elubo highway.

It would be recalled that Kamgbunli was the only Nzema community which benefitted from an underpass during the construction of the international road by the ABU Construction Company in the early 1980s which facilitated movement as people crossed the road to the other side of the town.

However, when the Chinese Construction Company took over, the contractor could not maintain the underpass and destroyed it making it unusable for the school children to pass under the road to school. As a result, the school children had to cross the road to the other side to school which often resulted in casualties as some of them were knocked down by speeding vehicles.

Mr Shaibu Issaka a   representative of Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe in the town made the cash donation on behalf of the Vice-President of the Group, Mr Osman Alhaji Nuhu to Mr Dauda Nuhu. According to the Vice-President of the group, the donation was realized at the annual conference of Kamgbunli  Citizens in the diaspora in Italy chaired by the Nkosuohene of Kamgbunli , Alhaji Ali Nuhu Abeka when they discuss matters concerning the development of the town.

The conference recognized the singular efforts and sacrifices   of the volunteer in traffic control, Mr Dauda Nuhu over the years and the need to make contributions to reward him. According to the Vice-President of the group, while recognizing the efforts of the volunteer in traffic control, government must take urgent steps to curb accidents at the intersection by designing a proper zebra-crossing as well as mounting a traffic light at the bus terminal.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency at Kamgbunli, the traffic control volunteer said he was moved to devote his time to cross school children and even directing traffic for adults who wanted to cross the road some 18 years ago as speeding vehicles were knocking down school children who wanted to cross the road. Mr Dauda Nuhu expressed a deep sense of gratitude to the group for donating GHc11,000.00 to reward him. He also thanked elders of Kamgbunli for assisting him financially since he totally devoted himself to that cause without going to work though he was a family man.

Mr Nuhu appealed to government to supply him with traffic reflectors and employ him formally to continue with the work. A Retired District Director of Education for Nzema-East, who is an indigene of Kamgbunli, Alhaji Sophiano commended Mr Dauda Nuhu for the sacrificial traffic control exercise in the town over the years. He said elders in the town agreed to assist him with a monthly stipend for some time now. Alhaji Sophiano said the town would not take the law into their hands by mounting speed rumps and zebra crossing on the road until the government decides to undertake that project.

He also appealed to the government for traffic lights at the intersection. Alhaji Sophiano advised drivers to lower their speed especially when they reach the town and allow pedestrians to cross the road to the other side. He thanked Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe for making the donation to reward years of sacrificial work to Mr Dauda Nuhu. He said elders of the town acknowledged their contributions to the development of the community over the years and appealed to them to continue to assist in the development of the town.
