The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Ga North Municipality, Accra, has established Civic Education Clubs (CEC) in five schools to empower students to explore civic issues, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate responsible citizenship.

The inaugural ceremony, led by Madam Mabel Manufie, the Ga North Municipal Director, NCCE, took place at the Disciplined Child School at Ayawaso in Accra.

The five schools were Executive Disciplined Child School, Peace Anchor Academy, Prinsac International School, Mighty Jesus Academy, and Floyd Albert International School.

Madam Manufie said the establishment of the clubs formed part of the NCCE’s mandate to formulate, implement and oversee programmes intended to inculcate in the citizens constitutional awareness, civic responsibility and democratic participation to implement activities that engaged young people in meaningful learning.

She assured that the NCCE was committed to ensuring that communities got informed about the laws of the country to help them participate actively in governance and enhance their personal development.

“As we launch this initiative, we are committed to fostering informed discussions, community engagements and leadership development,” she said.

Some students from the beneficiary schools were sworn in as executives to champion the activities of the clubs.

Mrs Rose Elorm Klutse-Adelayita, Assistant Director, NCCE, Ga North Municipal Office, who swore in the executives, encouraged them to take the leadership positions seriously and ensure they achieved their goal.

She urged them to use the clubs’ activities as a learning curve for their future endeavours, and be knowledgeable about their rights and responsibilities as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

“Take the leadership position seriously and work because those who voted for you believe in you. Be humble, teach and lead because this is going to help you in the future, since you are going to learn a lot from the Constitution,” she said.

Mr Cardinal Emmanuel Antwi, a teacher from Peace Anchor Academy, urged the students to be faithful to the members and bring onboard ideas that would make the club vibrant.

He commended the NCCE for the initiative and appealed for it to be replicated in other schools.
