NCCE organises dialogue for parliamentary candidates in Ada constituency

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a dialogue for parliamentary candidates in the Ada constituency, creating the platform for them to interact with the electorates.

The dialogue was aimed at keeping the citizens informed about the intentions of the various candidates and their visions for the constituency.

Ms Faustina Blewusi, the Ada East District Director for the NCCE, told the Ghana News Agency, that the Commission undertook a nationwide survey to seek the concerns of the citizenry on their expectations from the candidates.

Ms Blewusi, traditionally known as Mama Megbenya I, said some of the nationwide concerns of the citizens were based on education, health, employment, economy, agriculture, and road infrastructure.

She said the NCCE then initiated the dialogue based on the various concerns shared by the citizens, for the candidates to make their intentions and policies known on the issues to their people.

“So, we name the dialogue ‘Matters of concern to the Ghanaian voter,’ and in the Ada Constituency, we have two candidates, one each from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” she said.

Although the programme was a success, she expressed concern about the absence of Madam Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe Ghansah, the incumbent Member of Parliament and the NDC candidate, saying her outfit consulted the candidates before confirming the date for the dialogue.

“We served them letters. I even went to the house of the NDC candidate with a staff member; based on her concern, we chose this very day for the programme but it is just unfortunate she didn’t turn up. We are so glad that the NPP candidate was here to engage with the citizens,” she explained.

Ms Dornukie Naa Norteye, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, shared her plans to facilitate development in the constituency with the electorates, touching on the various concerns raised by the NCCE and said she had already conducted a survey and knew the needs of the community members.

She said she had already started working on education, road infrastructure, water, sanitation, and many other needs of the people.

She appealed to her followers to embark on a peaceful campaign and urged them to ensure a conflict-free environment before, during, and after the elections.

“The elections will soon be over, and we will remain the people of Ada. When someone insults you during this campaign period, don’t reply with insults and use your thumb to speak. Ada was before politics and so let’s continue to enjoy our peaceful coexistence as one people because Ada deserves better,” she said.

Some of the community members who spoke with GNA expressed satisfaction with how the candidate responded to their questions.

They were optimistic that Ms Norteye would emerge victorious in the elections, disclosing that she had always conducted clean campaigns compared to others.
