In an exciting development, a vibrant state-of-the-art AstroTurf facility designed to enhance recreational opportunities, promote healthy lifestyles, and serve as a hub for sports and community events has been commissioned at Senchi in the Asuogyaman District.
The mini stadium includes a football pitch, stands, and floodlights, as well as a seating area recognised as one of the best-built grounds in the region to promote sports and talent development.
Speaking at the unveiling event, Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide, Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, who facilitated the establishment of the artificial pitch, noted that sports infrastructure was critical in fostering athletic talent.
“Sporting activities are one of the lucrative sources of income, and Ghana must embrace it by investing in it, and that’s why the president has taken it upon himself to ensure that astro turfs are constructed to help improve sports talents across the breadth and length of the country,” he said.
He added, “The motivation is extrinsic, in the sense that the young people of this constituency have been complaining, putting pressure on me, and crying that they too deserve a modern pitch.” Mr. Hadzide, who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Asuogyaman Constituency, emphasized the importance of investing in sports infrastructure to help young people in the district develop their skills.
He urged the facility’s management committee to maintain the sports infrastructure properly to enhance its effectiveness and lifespan.
He promised that if elected in the December 7 elections, the residents of Asuogyaman would benefit from a range of new initiatives.
Asuogyasono Kofi Adipah II, the Kyidome Hene of Akwamufie, speaking on behalf of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, the Paramount Chief of the Akwamu Traditional Area, expressed delight at the completion of the AstroTurf project.
He thanked the CEO for fulfilling his promise to the residents of the area, noting that the development of the AstroTurf would promote football and other sports disciplines among students and young people in Asuogyaman.
Ms. Akonnor, the District Chief Executive for the Asuogyaman District Assembly, told the Ghana News Agency that the NPP government and the parliamentary candidate have solid plans for Ghanaians, citing the AstroTurf as an example of the ruling government’s achievements.
