New Juaben North: Assembly members reject MCE nominee

The Municipal Chief Executive nominee for New Juaben North Comfort Asante has been rejected by Assembly members.

The MCE nominee polled 15 Yes votes as against 14 no votes on Friday, October 8, 2021.

The renomination of the comfort Asante, a retired lecturer as MCE for New Juaben was met with seething anger among the New Juaben North Constituency of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, most of their members constitute a majority in the Assembly.

Comfort Asante becomes the third nominee to be rejected in the region.

The DCE nominee for Achiase, Richmond Kofi Amponsah Adjabeng was the first casualty, however, he was confirmed on Sunday, October 3, 2021, through alleged violence and manipulation of the election.

Municipal Chief Executive nominee for Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern region, Victoria Adu was also rejected by the assembly.

The nominee failed to secure two-thirds majority votes during her confirmation on Monday, October 4, 2021.

Meanwhile, the DCE nominee for Upper Manya Krobo Joe Sam has been confirmed by the Assembly.

He polled 46 Yes votes out of 47 valid votes cast representing 98% on Friday, October 8, 2021.

Joseph Sam served only six months as DCE under formal President Kufuor when the NPP lost power in 2008.

In a related development, Alhaji Umar Bodinga, MCE nominee for Abuakwa North, secured 100% Yes votes today.

Before his appointment, he was the 1st Vice Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP and government appointees.
