National Investment Bank PLC has pledged GH¢1 million to support a housing redevelopment project for the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp.
The bank’s Managing Director, Doliwura Zakaria, announced the donation at a brief ceremony, describing it as seed funding for the military’s accommodation initiative. He highlighted the long-standing partnership between the bank and the Armed Forces, particularly during periods of financial restructuring.
Dr Zakaria noted that the housing project is of strategic importance, which informed the bank’s decision to support it financially.
He also revealed that NIB is undertaking reforms under the direction of its principal shareholder, the government, including plans to float shares to boost its capital base and ensure long-term sustainability.
To further strengthen its relationship with military personnel, the bank’s board has approved plans to establish a dedicated branch at Burma Camp before the end of the year to improve access to banking services within the barracks.
In response, the Chief of Defence Staff, William Agyapong, expressed appreciation for the support and commended the bank’s recent recovery efforts.
He disclosed that accommodation remains a major challenge for the Armed Forces, adding that the government has agreed to facilitate the construction of 10,000 housing units nationwide over the next five years, including 250 units at Burma Camp.
Lt. Gen. Agyapong further announced that the project’s formal launch and fundraising event is scheduled for April 18, 2026, and called on corporate institutions to support the initiative.
