The Welfare Committee of the Padmore Street Primary School in Tema Community One has appealed to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to clear the surroundings of the school of piled refuse deposited by residents.

A letter signed by Mr Jibril Seidu, Chairperson of the Welfare Committee, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), followed a story published by the GNA to raise concerns over the insanitary condition behind the school, which puts pupils of the school at risk.

It stated that “I am writing to express concern regarding a significant pile of refuse located behind Padmore Street Primary School. This waste, primarily generated by residents, poses a serious health hazard to both learners and the surrounding community.”

The committee requested that the TMA arrange for the immediate clearing of the refuse, urging the assembly to also educate residents on the dangers of indiscriminate waste disposal.

“Furthermore, we recommend you place a notice at the refuse dump site to discourage further dumping,” it added.
