The 2001 alumni group of Presbyterian Senior High School, Legon (PRESEC-Legon) has launched an appeal for support to construct staff housing on the school’s campus.

The project forms part of the group’s 25th anniversary legacy initiative, which also coincides with the school’s 88th anniversary celebrations. Known as the Ɔdadeɛ 2001 Legacy Project, the initiative will see the construction of a four-unit, two-bedroom apartment block to provide additional residential accommodation for teachers.

The facility is expected to be built at the Ɔdadeɛ 2001 Square on the PRESEC-Legon campus. According to the organisers, the project aims to help close the widening accommodation gap for staff at the school. Despite hosting about 3,290 boarding students, only 59 teachers currently live on campus, which the alumni say affects effective supervision, mentoring, and pastoral care.

They explained that the shortage of residential facilities also makes it difficult to maintain the recommended 1:40 teacher-student ratio in Ghana. The new apartments are therefore intended to attract and retain more teachers on campus while improving their availability to support students beyond classroom hours.

The alumni believe the project will enhance student discipline, safety, welfare, and emergency response, while also boosting teacher morale and retention. They added that the initiative is meant to address an immediate infrastructure need while leaving a lasting contribution to the school’s development.

Funding for the project will be raised through a sod-cutting and fundraising campaign targeting the global executive of the Odadeɛ fraternity, various PRESEC alumni year groups, corporate bodies, old students, and other supporters of the school.

The sod-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 13, at Odadeɛ 2G1 Square near the Alumni Centre in Accra.
