    Presidency confirms death of former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

    In a statement issued by the Ministry of Government Communications and signed by its spokesperson, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, the Presidency expressed “deep regret and profound sorrow” over her passing.

    The Government of Ghana has officially announced the passing of Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady and Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement.

    In a statement issued by the Ministry of Government Communications and signed by its spokesperson, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, the Presidency expressed “deep regret and profound sorrow” over her passing. According to the release, Mrs. Rawlings died on the morning of Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, after a short illness.

    The government extended its “deepest condolences to her immediate family,” describing her as a significant figure in Ghana’s history who made notable contributions to national development and women’s empowerment. Mrs. Rawlings, who served as First Lady from 1979 and later from 1981 to 2001, is remembered for her advocacy, leadership, and lifelong commitment to advancing the role of women in Ghanaian society.

    The government extended its “deepest condolences to her immediate family,” describing her as a significant figure in Ghana’s history who made notable contributions to national development and women’s empowerment.
