In the government’s measures to help contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the President has announced some relaxation in restrictions imposed on religious activities across the country.

The President in his 14th address to the nation since the outbreak of the coronavirus last night, stated that religious activities can now be held for two hours without limit on the number of attendees.

“I am therefore, very happy to announce that, in consultation with our church leaders, from 1st August, 2020,  the restrictions on the number of congregants worshiping at a time in church will be lifted, with the length of worship extended from one to two hours per service,” he said.

He further cautioned religious leaders to keep adhering to the one meter social distancing rule, wearing of face masks by all and the other enhanced protocol hygiene measures that have been put in place by the government to curb the pandemic.

“Church leaders, who are desirous of implementing this enhanced easing directive, must ensure that congregants wear nose masks at all times, and the one metre social distancing rule is scrupulously applied. These same guidelines apply to worship in our mosques,” he added.
