On Friday, 8th March 2024, the President of Malta, George William Vella, and his spouse, the First Lady, Miriam Vella, paid a courtesy call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Jubilee House, the seat of government.

This formed part of a 2-day State Visit of President Vella to Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo described the a visit as landmark one for him, as it is the second time a sitting President from the Republic of Malta is paying a State Visit to Ghana, following the first made in July 2017 by Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, then President of Malta.

I say landmark because both of these visits have occurred during the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

He further stated that the ministerial teams of our two countries held discussions aimed essentially at strengthening the already cordial relations that exist between our two countries, as well as exploring other areas of co-operation for the mutual benefit of our two peoples.

“Our discussions centered on the improvement in the volumes of trade between Ghana and Malta, mutual support for candidates from our two countries vying for positions with international organisations, issues of migration, the reform of global governance institutions, and the deepening of political consultations on matters of mutual interest to the two countries, amongst others,” he said.
