President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, to ensure that all emoluments and benefits due the immediate past Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, are paid.

Mr Amidu who resigned from the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Monday, November 16, cited what he described as “political interference in the independence of his office” as the main reason for his decision to resign.

He also raised concerns about the payment of emoluments and benefits due him and his assistant since taking the office in February 2018.

The Chief of Staff, in a letter dated Tuesday, November 17, and addressed to Mr Amidu said “The President has directed me to ensure that all emoluments and benefits due you under law are paid to you accordingly.”

The letter also indicated that the President had accepted his resignation letter and would respond to his concerns in due course.

“This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter, dated 16th November 2020…, addressed to the President of the Republic conveying to him your decision to resign from office as Special Prosecutor, which he has accepted.”

“The President has taken due note of the other matters raised in your letter, and the Government will issue a statement responding to them in due course,” the letter said.
