Professor Abeiku Blankson appointed as the new president of AUCC

Professor Isaac Abeiku Blankson has been appointed by the board of directors and governing council of the African University  College of  Communications (AUCC) as the new president for the next five years. This was announced in a press release issued on August 31st, 2021, issued by Corporate and International Relations Department of the Institution.

Professor Blankson, who was once a Pro Vice Chancellor of Ghana Communication Technology University (GTUC) and rejoined AUCC and was the  Vice President , Academics takes over from Dr Christopher Akwaa-Mensah whose term has ended.

Professor Blankson holds a PHD in Communication from Ohio University and has extensive experience in programme and curricular development, media training and research, business communications, public relations and strategic communications.

Before relocating to Ghana, Professor was Chairman of the Department of Applied Communication Studies, University of Illinois, in the USA. In Ghana Professor Blankson has served or chaired several panels of the National Accreditation Board to review communication programmes for a number of Universities, and currently chairs, since 2018, the Ghana Innovation Hub.

Professor Blankson has a number of publications to his credit.

According to the new board chairman of AUCC, Mr Kwesi Yankah, “He is a great addition to AUCC’s next phase of reshaping its vision to serve a new technology-driven world order”.

Professor Blankson also said, “leading AUCC to achieve the ultimate dream of the founder has been a pre-occupation of mine, and I am happy to finally be back to the university. The communication landscape has changed completely and we need a new direction to meet the gaping challenges.”

The University was founded by Hon. Kojo Yankah in 2002 with 60 diploma students and now has a population of 1,500 offering Bachelors and Masters Degrees in communication Studies and 3 business programmes.

Professor Blankson is expected to be  officially inducted into office on October 1st, 2021.
