The Santrokofi Bume Development Association (SABUDA) has completed and handed over the second phase of a teachers’ quarters to the Santrokofi Bume Basic School in the Guan District.

The community-led project, valued at GH₵125,000, includes toilet and bath facilities and aims to improve teaching and learning outcomes by providing decent accommodation for teachers.

Dr. Nathaniel Atikumi, Chairman of SABUDA, revealed that about 90 percent of the project’s cost was funded by community members both at home and abroad, who made personal sacrifices to ensure its completion. He explained that the initiative was intended to enhance supervision and academic performance while instilling good moral values in students.

He urged the occupants to maintain the facility properly, noting that a small monthly contribution would be collected for upkeep, as was done with the first phase. Dr. Atikumi also appealed to the government to consider upgrading Santrokofi Bume Basic School into a model STEM Junior High School, assuring that the community would offer its full support.

Expressing appreciation to all contributors, he encouraged students to take their studies seriously to become responsible citizens.

Mr. Maxwell Richard Letsyor, Headmaster of the school, described the facility as crucial in improving teachers’ welfare, saying that quality education thrives when teachers are comfortable and motivated. He added that the quarters would help attract and retain dedicated staff, enhance supervision, and strengthen community ties.

Despite accommodation challenges, he commended the teachers for their resilience, noting that the school achieved a 100 percent pass rate in the last academic year. He assured that the facility would be well maintained for the benefit of future staff.

Nana Obibiribi Kumi III, Krontehene of the Santrokofi Traditional Area, lauded the community’s unity, which has enabled several development projects, including a water system, nurses’ quarters, classroom blocks, and clinic renovations. He reiterated his call for the establishment of a Nursing Training College in Santrokofi to serve the Guan District and create employment opportunities.

Guan MP, Mr. Fred Agbenyo, and District Chief Executive, Mr. Godfred Koffie, both commended the initiative. Mr. Koffie assured that the Assembly remains committed to development efforts, announcing plans to provide modern mechanised boreholes for all communities in the district.
