The Tamale College of Education (TaCE), and the Tolon Senior High School (SHS) have taken delivery of quantities of books to promote literacy and reading amongst students.
The books, numbering 427, included curriculum-based teaching, and learning materials on Literature and Fiction, Physics, Biology, Geography, and other teaching pedagogy related books.
The TaCE received a total of 273 books while Tolon SHS received 154 books. They were donated by School for Life, an NGO, in collaboration with Book Aid International, a UK-based organization.
Mr. Amadu Zulyaden, Projects Manager at SfL, speaking during the handing over of the books to representatives of the beneficiary schools in Tamale, said it formed part of efforts to promote literacy and encourage reading amongst students.
He said it was also to enhance students’ confidence and academic performance. He said the partners had a lot more books to distribute to other schools, urging the beneficiary schools to take good care of the books.
Mr. Nuhu Alhassan, Vice Principal, TaCE, who received the books on behalf of the College, commended SfL and Book Aid International for the gesture pledging to ensure that the books were put to good use.
Mr. Mohammed Kamil Ziblim, Headmaster, Tolon SHS pledged to supervise and ensure that the books were used judiciously to enhance students’ academic performance.
