Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano North, has rolled out a free eye screening exercise aimed at improving eye health across his constituency.

The initiative, announced via his social media platforms, covered the Bomaa, Yamfo, and Adrobaa zones and forms Phase One of a wider community health intervention.

During the screening, about 35 residents were identified as needing eye surgery. Dr. Boako confirmed that steps are being taken to fully sponsor the surgeries at Sunyani Teaching Hospital and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as part of his continued efforts to expand access to essential healthcare services in the area.

Among the cases was a young girl from Atudrobesa who suffered a severe eye injury after being struck by a football months ago, leading to a stone becoming lodged in her eye. She has since lost her sight, and urgent arrangements are being made for her to receive specialist treatment at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Boako noted that this marks only the first phase of the programme, with additional phases expected to extend the benefits to more communities within Tano North.

He expressed appreciation to key partners, including Sunyani Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and the Himalayan Cataract Project, for their support in delivering the free screening and planned surgeries, which are set to significantly improve the lives of beneficiaries.
