Grammy award-winning Nigerian artiste Burna Boy has called on his colleague musicians across the continent to tell the African story through their music.

According to him, the story of Africa has been twisted in the wrong way for a long time, and so the truth must be told.

The ‘African Giant’ was speaking with BBC News Africa, following his Grammy feat. He discussed his ‘Twice As Tall” album and the importance of Africans telling their own stories.

He said “our stories have been twisted and told in the wrong way, now is the time to tell the truth, we are in the better times with a generation who are ready to change the narrative in to the truth”

On why it is important to work from his homeland, Nigeria, despite the challenges, he indicated “because, it’s my home at the end of the day and the fact that I did it here and from here, it doesn’t mean that it was conducive or it was always like this.”

“So I feel like if the environment was more conducive, if we had leadership who took the youth seriously and certain infrastructures in place, then I probably wouldn’t be winning the Grammys in 2021.”

He added “I would probably have won the Grammys in 2013 or 14. But at the end of the day, it is what it is you know… and God makes no mistakes.”
