Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, has called on stakeholders, especially industry players, to collaborate and support the Assembly to achieve its developmental vision.
Mr Totimeh, who made the call during a Public Financial Management Town Hall Meeting at Klagon, said the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) could not address all the developmental issues in the area alone without the support of all stakeholders.
He indicated that every electoral area has a number of challenges, especially road networks, adding that for the Assembly to efficiently address them, residents must contribute their quota and ideas.
He said his doors were opened to all to consult him on developments in the area, urging residents to report people in the community who had diverted their sewage into drains.
He noted that it was illegal and such people would be apprehended and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others and prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases such as cholera.
Mr Totimeh said due to mass settlement expansion, areas such as Adjei Kojo and Klagon had major infrastructure challenges, adding that due to limited resources to immediately address the issues, it had left a gap in development in the municipality.
He stated that at the end of 2024, the Assembly had completed 95 of its 110 scheduled programmes for the year, adding that eight were ongoing.
According to him, over the past couple of years, TWMA used more than 60 per cent of its internally generated funds to improve infrastructure, especially roads and drainage, and sanitation services within the municipality.
Mentioning some of the projects the assembly worked on, he noted that double satellite coverings were constructed at Klagon AA area and the completion of Klagon Community 12 bridge, among others.
“In addition, the assembly is currently constructing a four-unit teacher bungalow at Adjei Kojo and a 3-storey building classroom block at Twala Basic School.
Touching on revenue mobilisation, he disclosed that out of about GHS37 million total revenue target for 2024, the Assembly was able to gather 87.3 per cent.
The MCE further stated that the assembly hoped to achieve its GHS38 million target for this year, revealing that as of the end of the first quarter, TWMA had mobilised 20.9 per cent compared to the 14.3 per cent during the same period in 2024.
According to him, to achieve this, they would deepen their revenue collection drive by enhancing data and the installation of new pay points, especially in Adjei Kojo, to reduce the struggle people go through to pay their tolls and rates and intensify education and sensitisation programmes in the communities.
He said it was imperative for the citizenry to support the Assembly and its measures to enhance revenue collection, including property rates, to get the needed revenue to embark on developmental projects.
