The General Transport, Petroleum, and Chemical Workers Union of TUC (GPCWU) has urged the government to dissolve the board of directors at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

The union highlighted TOR’s achievements since the board’s appointment, tasked with securing a credible, strategic partner for TOR approximately 18 months ago.

Nevertheless, the union has noted a recent decline in the board’s competence.

Speaking at a press conference at the forecourt of the refinery, the Junior Staff Association Chairman of TOR, Joojo Koomson expressed his concern that the prolonged tenure of the board of directors is damaging the integrity of the appointing authority and placing an undue financial burden on the public.

“We are appealing to the Presidency. We desire the refinery to operate efficiently. As workers, we aim for optimal performance, which would enable us to assert our legal and rightful entitlements. We do not want anyone attempting to sway us with shares,” he said.
