The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has clarified that it neither approved nor endorsed the recently held Karnival Kingdom Festival in Accra.

In a statement issued on May 7 and signed by Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Ministry stated that it did not receive any proposal, request for approval, or official communication concerning the organisation of the event.

According to the Ministry, it remains unaware of the processes through which the festival allegedly obtained permission to operate in Ghana.

The statement stressed that the Ministry did not sanction, authorise, or officially support the staging of the festival.

The clarification comes amid growing public discussions and criticism surrounding activities linked to the event after videos and promotional materials circulated widely on social media.

The Ministry acknowledged concerns raised by stakeholders over certain aspects of the festival and emphasised the importance of following established regulatory procedures when organising public events in the country.

It further reminded organisers of tourism, cultural, entertainment, and recreational events to engage the relevant state institutions and obtain the necessary approvals before hosting such programmes.

Public debate over the Karnival Kingdom Festival intensified after its debut edition in Accra attracted widespread attention within entertainment circles and online platforms.

While some patrons praised the festival’s carnival atmosphere, music, nightlife, and themed activities, several religious groups criticised aspects of the celebration.

The controversy deepened after comments from Catholic bishops called for investigations into some activities associated with the event.

Despite the criticism, organisers have already announced pre-sales for the 2027 edition, inviting interested patrons to reserve slots with a £50 deposit.

The planned 2027 festival is expected to feature activities including carnival parades, jouvert celebrations, themed parties, excursions, and other entertainment experiences targeting both local and international audiences.
