Some youth in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region have expressed their gratitude to the current administration for the removal of taxes on betting, lottery, and the controversial e-levy.

Following the announcement by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, during the 2025 budget presentation on Tuesday, the youth believed that scrapping the taxes would ease the financial burden on Ghanaians.

Among the abolished taxes are the e-levy, emissions tax, lottery winnings tax, betting tax, VAT on motor vehicles, and insurance policy taxes.

Mr. Tayi Joshua, a resident of Kete-Krachi, shared his excitement in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), stating that the removal of the e-levy and betting tax, in particular, will bring much-needed relief.

“We suffered greatly under the e-levy and betting taxes introduced by the previous administration. Now that these have been cancelled, we can finally feel some relief. These taxes were slowly draining us,” he emphasized.

Another youth, Kwasi Zandare, lauded the decision, describing it as a step in the right direction.

“At least now, we can engage in betting without any tax deductions, and we can send money without worrying about e-levy charges. Hurrah!” he exclaimed.

He added, “We are finally free from these burdensome taxes. Ghana is truly resetting.”

In a joyous mood, the youth extended their appreciation to President Mahama and his administration, applauding the decision as a significant move towards easing economic hardship for Ghanaians.
