Zanlerigu FC emerged champions of the Third Edition of the annual Zanlerigu Dagliga Electoral Area Homecoming football gala.

The annual event is sponsored by Mr Anthony Namoo, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Regional Chairman of the Ghana Bar Association. The Zanlerigu FC edged out Kongo FC in a tensed and skillful final that was decided in the dying minutes of the match.

The tournament, which brought together 11 teams across the Nabdam District, witnessed some of the finest displays of youth football talents in recent times. Both finalists showcased impressive teamwork, tactical discipline, and resilience throughout the competition, but it was Zanlerigu FC that proved superior on the day, securing a dramatic late winner to clinch the title.

The final match remained tightly contested until the final minute when Zanlerigu’s swift counter-attack broke the deadlock, sending the home crowd into rapturous celebration. Notably, Zanlerigu FC completed the tournament without conceding a single goal, a testament to their defensive organization and goalkeeping prowess.

To acknowledge his immense contribution, the youth of the Zanlerigu Dagliga Electoral Area, led by the local sports committee, presented a citation to Mr Namoo. The citation praised his unwavering support for grassroots football and his commitment to the growth and development of young talent in Nabrug (Nabdam).

“For your contribution to the development of Nabrug, it is with great honor that the team would like to honour you and motivate you to keep having a positive impact on them. This appreciation is in recognition of your contribution and selfless support to the team. The team is highly grateful for your tremendous support and kindness,” the citation read.

Mr David Bebilla, the Coach of Zanlerigu FC and Lead Organizer of the tournament, acknowledged the immense contribution of Mr Namoo in the last three years and called on him not to relent in his efforts. “It is our hope that the good Lord will continue to guide and protect him in all his endeavours to continue supporting us in nurturing talents and uniting our people through football,” he added.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr Namoo commended all participating teams for their discipline and sportsmanship, calling for greater unity among the youth. He encouraged players to view the gala not only as a competition but also as a platform to build friendships and discover their potential. He also revealed plans to transform the community park into a standard green-grass football pitch to minimize injuries and enhance the quality of play in future tournaments.

Zanlerigu FC went away with a cash prize of GH¢1,500.00, a set of jerseys, medals, a football, and the ultimate prize being the cup and bragging rights. On the other hand, the Kongo FC, which placed second, also went home with a cash prize of GH¢1,000.00, a set of jerseys, medals, and a football.
