2 new MPs to be sworn in when Parliament resumes on October 14

Parliament will officially reconvene on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, as the 9th Parliament resumes its Third Meeting of the First Session, with proceedings scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., according to an announcement made by Speaker Alban Bagbin in line with Order 58 of the Standing Orders.

The House adjourned on August 1, 2025, after weeks of intensive work that saw the passage of major bills, approval of agreements, and debates on key national issues. The upcoming meeting will focus largely on the presentation of the 2026 Budget, the review of budget estimates for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and the subsequent passage of the Appropriation Bill.

Two new Majority MPs will also be sworn in following recent by-elections: Bernard Bediako, representing Akwatia after the passing of Ernest Kumi, and Prof. Alidu Seidu, taking over Tamale Central from the late Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Their induction will bring hope to their constituents, though the occasion will carry a sense of loss for Parliament.

Several legislative instruments that lapsed before recess are expected to be reintroduced, alongside key bills such as the Ghana Scholarships Authority Bill, which previously attracted criticism from educators and policy experts.

The Third Meeting is projected to set the tone for important legislative and oversight duties, with debates on economic recovery strategies, public financial management, and broader governance concerns. Other matters, including the Minority’s call for the government to submit its agreement with the United States on deportees for ratification, are also expected to feature prominently.
