The recognition, awarded at the Floodlight Gaming Connects Investigative Reporting event, positions Anas at the forefront of digital-era storytelling.

The innovative project adapts real investigative cases—ranging from corruption scandals to environmental crimes—into interactive gaming formats. Audiences are not just passive readers or viewers; they are invited to step into the shoes of an investigative reporter, make tough decisions, and experience firsthand the dilemmas that define undercover journalism.

The initiative was supported by leading global journalism networks and sponsors, including the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), which has been at the forefront of empowering investigative journalists worldwide. OCCRP praised Anas’s win as “a bold leap into the future of reporting, where technology and truth work hand in hand to inspire accountability.”

Other sponsors and partners—including international media innovation labs, human rights funders, and digital storytelling organizations—also played a vital role in making the project possible. Their collective support underscores a growing recognition that journalism must find new pathways to survive in the digital age.

Event organizers described Anas’s work as “visionary and transformative,” emphasizing its potential to connect with younger, tech-savvy audiences who may not typically engage with traditional long-form journalism. Judges highlighted the way the project blends entertainment with accountability, calling it “a tool that can inspire civic consciousness while keeping investigative reporting alive in new forms.”

The achievement has stirred pride in Ghana and across Africa. Media analysts say it demonstrates how African journalism can not only compete on the global stage but also lead in innovation. Civil society groups hailed the project as a timely intervention in an age where disinformation spreads rapidly online.

By embracing gaming as a storytelling tool, Anas is pioneering a shift that could reshape how investigative work reaches audiences. With players actively navigating missions inspired by real corruption cases, the platform promises to spark conversations about justice, governance, and civic responsibility.

This latest global recognition—backed by OCCRP and other sponsors—adds to Anas’s growing list of international honors and cements his status as one of Africa’s most influential journalists. Beyond the accolades, the project offers a glimpse into the future of investigative reporting—one where truth is not only uncovered but also lived by those it seeks to empower.
