The third edition of the Ghana-Centre of the World Golf tournament has been launched with the main event scheduled to take place on August 26 – 28, 2021 at the now Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema.

The Ghana – Centre of the World Golf Tournament is an invitational tournament opened to all golfers across Ghana and the West Coast of Africa. This year’s tournament has been dubbed “3 .0 Version and it is being used to educate the public to reduce the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic.

At a media launch of the tournament yesterday, August 11, CEO of the organizing company, Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Kwadwo Odame Antwi indicated that the tournament is an annual sports tourism brand which highlights Ghana as the Centre of the World due to Tema being the closest habitable land to the interjectional point of Longitude 0ᵒ or the Greenwich Meridian and Latitude 0ᵒ or the Equator in the Atlantic Ocean.

He added that Tournament was birthed by the Ghana-Centre of the World Tourism Project. The Tourism project; a tourism initiative that seeks to position and market Ghana as a desired and most preferred tourist destination in Africa and the world at large.

“This Golf Tournament was conceived as part of the stakeholder engagement process and also an opportunity to highlight and promote the Ghana-Centre of the World Project. For our partners, the Golf Club to rebrand and select this name in particular on the third edition of this tournament speaks to the fact that the project is gaining the needed awareness and recognition.

This means our work is cut out for us in the next phase by engaging stakeholders particularly investors, developers and financers for the multi-million-dollar tourism and infrastructure project,” he revealed.

Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Mark Okraku Mantey said sports tourism is one of the key and fastest growing drivers of people movement across the world and Ghana is positioning herself to take advantage of opportunities therein.
