The inauguration of the 100-bed Isolation and Treatment Centre has been rescheduled for the end of June 2020.
The rescheduling of the project, located at the Ga-East Municipal Hospital, has been occasioned by modifications made to the project based on a stakeholder’s advice.
Funded by the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, the project started on April 17, 2020 and was supposed to be completed and inaugurated by the close of May 2020.
The fund said the inclusion of those improvements and modifications necessitated more work, which had required a revision of the completion and inauguration date to June 30.
The modifications
A statement issued yesterday, and signed by the fund’s Managing Trustee, Mr Senyo K. Hosi, said the modification would “include the incorporation of a level 2.5 scalable to a level 3 biomedical laboratory in consultation with officials from Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research.”
It said it was also adding a 21-bed intensive care unit; the total insulation of the centre for energy efficiency since the facility would be required to be climatically controlled throughout its use.
“The modification will ensure the application of Ultra-Violet radiation treatment of air entering and exiting the facility to ensure no contaminated air exits the building.
“We consider these additions critical to delivering the impact Ghana needs in the fight against current and future epidemics and pandemics and are set to make the facility arguably a signature facility,” it said.
Gratitude
It expressed gratitude to all its donors for the faith they have kept with the fund and assured them of their commitment to deliver the project.
“We wish to express our pride and appreciation to the consultants from the Built Environment Institutions and the Ghana Armed Forces for volunteering their service to the project and Mother Ghana,” it said.
Success
The fund congratulated the entire project team and contractors on the success achieved so far amid the global supply chain challenge COVID-19 presented on the project execution.
“We call on all to join the campaign and donate any amount towards the completion of the project.
The project, it said, was earmarked as the country’s National Coronavirus Treatment Centre and would further strengthen and enhance government’s ability to deal with the spread of the coronavirus.
