Nana Kweku Esieni V, the Regent of Agona Swedru, has commissioned a10-seater modern washroom facility (bathhouse inclusive) for the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the Swedru Municipal Government Hospital to boost sanitation.

The project was financed by the internally generated fund (IGF) of the Hospital and personal contributions from the nurses, doctors and paramedical staff.

At a short ceremony to commission the project, Dr Julius Abuku, the Medical Superintendent, said management decided to put up a new washroom plus bathhouse to replace the old one, due to the growing numbers of patients who visited the facility. A polytank has been procured to ensure constant water supply at facility, which Dr Abuku said would enhance sanitation in the face of the upsurge in cholera cases recorded at the hospital.

“The management and entire staff have prioritized sanitation as essential for the healing process, adding that patients and their relatives needed to be treated with honor and dignity when assessing the facility,” he said. Dr Abuku appealed to the patients and visitors to take very good care of the facility to ensure its longevity for the benefit of all.

He called on the citizens of Agona Swedru, home and abroad, to support the hospital with medical equipment to motivate nurses, doctors and paramedical staff to give of their best. Nana Esieni, on his part, commended Dr Abuku and his team for their high sense of responsibility for initiating the projects and not depending solely on the Government to release funds for such projects.

He said the Swedruman Council of Chiefs would continue to offer maximum co-operation and support to the hospital’s management to render efficient services to Swedruman and beyond. The Council had put in place measures to raise funds to construct a VIP Ward for high profile personalities, he said.
