The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has assured the public that Coca-Cola products affected by a recent Belgium recall are not available on the Ghanaian market.
The assurance comes after Coca-Cola Belgium recalled several products including bottled Coke, Fanta, Sprite, and other beverages due to high levels of chlorate detected.
The recall was carried out across Europe.
In a press release copied to the Ghana news agency, the FDA said none of the affected products, which were produced between November 23 and December 3, 2024, and till date have been registered or officially imported into Ghana.
“Our market surveillance has not detected any of these Belgian products in Ghana,” the FDA stated, adding that it maintains strict monitoring at all points of entry.
The release clarified that Ghana’s registered Coca-Cola imports come from eight countries: Algeria, Liberia, South Africa, Tunisia, Nigeria, the UK, USA, and Canada. It also reiterated that locally manufactured products including Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, and Lime-lemon are produced under strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.
The affected products can be identified by production codes ranging from 328 GE to 338 GE located at the base of containers. The FDA has urged the public to report any sightings of the affected Belgian products to their nearest FDA office, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure consumer safety.
