The A.M.E. Western West Africa Episcopal office has supported tidal wave victims at Salakope, Amutsinu and Agavedzi in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.

The items worth GH₵50,000, include 30 bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, 200 crates of eggs, 100 mosquito nets, 250 bags of sachet water, 120 bowls of gari, used clothing, among others.

Mrs. Cynthia Sewa Dogbey, the Missionary Supervisor and the leader of the group, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the donation was to help alleviate the plight and sufferings of the affected victims, who were displaced by the devastating tidal wave.

“We are doing these donations on behalf of my husband and the Head Overseer of Western West Africa Episcopal, Bishop Doctor Hilliard Dela Dogbey, who travelled to perform another important duty for the church elsewhere,” she said.

She said that the situation at the three communities in the Ketu South municipality demanded immediate and greater attention to prevent further distraction by the tidal wave.

She commended the government, individuals, philanthropists and group of companies for the various efforts and support extended to the tidal wave victims and urged others to help mitigate the challenges of the communities.

“The donation are just part of the benevolence support we always give to support anyone who is in need, and our Western West Africa Episcopal which consist of countries such Ghana, Liberia, Cote D’lvoire and Togo deemed it necessary to come in and support our people.”

Mr Ebenezer Assah, the Assembly Member of the area, who received the donations on behalf of the three communities, thanked the donors for the kind gestures which would help curb the numerous challenges the victims faced.

He said that about 232 houses, including cemeteries and recreational places were submerged while fishing and other economic activities were also affected with many been traumatised due to damages tidal wave posed to some infrastructure such as pipelines waters, electricity poles, roads and others.

He commended the government for the allocation of GH₵200 for the victims and thanked other individuals for the various supports and urged stakeholders to quickly complete the sea defense project and restore the livelihood of the area.
