The 2026 edition of Miss Diaspora Ghana has been officially launched in Accra, with stakeholders underscoring its importance in strengthening ties with the diaspora and supporting national development.

The launch event, held on April 9 at the Accra City Hotel, brought together government officials, business leaders, and members of the diplomatic community.

Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Richard Anane Nsiah, described the initiative as more than a beauty contest, highlighting its role in celebrating identity and strengthening connections between Ghana and its global diaspora.

He pointed to major initiatives such as the Year of Return, Beyond the Return, and the Black Star Experience as key drivers of diaspora engagement, adding that diaspora contributions—especially from women—are vital to Ghana’s global image and development.

Chief Executive Officer of Nubian Crown Company Limited, Yvonne Eyram Kofigah, explained that the platform is designed to go beyond pageantry by creating meaningful impact. She noted that it aims to reconnect women of African descent with their roots while offering opportunities that contribute to national growth.

She added that the 2026 winner will spearhead a community project on the Akuapem Ridge, focused on establishing a vocational and skills training centre to support cassava processing, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

Also speaking, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Development Company, Kobby Mensah, highlighted tourism’s role in economic transformation. He referenced initiatives such as the Ghana Tourism Marketplace, which connects local enterprises to international markets, and investment platforms aimed at attracting diaspora participation.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive of the Ghana Export-Import Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah, stressed the importance of youth empowerment and industrial growth. He described the programme’s theme as timely, noting that Ghana’s development depends on strengthening industries, supporting local businesses, and leveraging diaspora investment.

The launch signals the start of activities for the 2026 edition, with organisers calling for stronger collaboration between government, private sector players, and the diaspora to ensure long-term impact.
