The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has justified the government’s decision to recruit 7,000 teachers, responding to concerns that the number is insufficient to meet the country’s growing educational demands.
Speaking at the launch and communications briefing of the 19th edition of the eLearning Africa Conference on April 14, the Minister explained that financial limitations have restricted the government’s ability to hire more teachers.
He noted that while the ideal target would be to recruit up to 50,000 teachers nationwide, budgetary constraints made it impossible. As a result, the Ministry of Education Ghana sought approval from the Ministry of Finance Ghana to recruit 7,000 qualified teachers with degrees and diplomas.
Haruna Iddrisu emphasized that the recruitment process was carried out in a transparent and open manner, ensuring equal opportunity for all applicants.
In addition to addressing staffing challenges, he also highlighted plans by the government to introduce a digital education policy aimed at tackling systemic gaps and enhancing learning outcomes across the country.
