The Ministry of Education Ghana has constituted a three-member committee to investigate allegations made by the University Teachers Association of Ghana following concerns raised during a recent press conference.
This move comes after UTAG issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government on April 13, 2026, demanding the removal of the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, and his deputy, Augustine Ocloo.
In a petition addressed to John Dramani Mahama, UTAG accused the GTEC leadership of overstepping its regulatory mandate, making unilateral decisions, and adopting what it described as a coercive administrative style.
According to the Ministry, the committee will be chaired by Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak. Other members include Professor K.T. Oduro, Technical Advisor to the Ministry, and Professor Mahama Duweijua, Board Chairman of GTEC.
The committee has been tasked with examining the claims and providing recommendations aimed at resolving the issues raised by UTAG.
The Ministry has called on all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the committee, emphasising the need for dialogue in addressing challenges within the tertiary education sector.
It also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to engaging constructively with stakeholders to maintain stability and promote continued development in Ghana’s higher education system.
