Speaking on the initiative, HealthTech Ghana’s Business Development Manager, Vivian Odarko Armah, explained that anyone with a doctor’s referral for an MRI is eligible for the service. Patients without a referral can register as outpatients at the hospital, after which they will be assessed and guided through the booking process.
She noted that scan durations depend on the body part being examined, with a typical brain scan taking about 30 minutes and up to an hour when contrast imaging is required. Due to high demand, patients are scheduled for appointments rather than receiving same-day scans.
Ms Armah emphasized that a doctor’s request form remains mandatory before any MRI procedure can be conducted.
She also highlighted that the MRI machine, supplied by HealthTech Ghana, is a Philips system that uses helium-free technology. According to her, the technology enhances reliability and operational efficiency compared to conventional MRI machines that rely on helium-based magnet systems.
The Public Relations Officer of 37 Military Hospital, Captain Jude Nunatey, disclosed that the facility currently operates one MRI machine. He added that CT scan and X-ray services have already been restored, with the MRI service representing the latest expansion of the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities.
