The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has inaugurated a 20-member Greater Accra Public Lands Protection Taskforce to strengthen efforts aimed at safeguarding state-owned lands within the region.

The taskforce comprises representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Lands Commission, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces. Its primary responsibility will be to enhance the monitoring, inspection, and surveillance of public lands across Greater Accra.

Announcing the initiative in a Facebook post on June 18, the Minister described the protection of public lands as a critical national responsibility. He noted that state lands are strategic national assets needed for infrastructure development, public services, and future economic growth.

Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah expressed concern over the growing incidence of encroachment on government lands, warning that unlawful occupation continues to deprive the state of valuable resources and opportunities for development.

According to him, the newly inaugurated taskforce has been mandated to monitor and inspect public lands, respond promptly to reports of encroachment, and support the enforcement of lawful directives relating to land use and protection.

He further urged members of the taskforce to perform their duties with professionalism, fairness, and integrity while remaining focused on their mandate of protecting state property.

The Minister emphasized that the taskforce will operate with full enforcement support and will undertake continuous monitoring, rigorous inspections, and active surveillance activities throughout the Greater Accra Region.

The initiative forms part of broader government efforts to curb illegal occupation of public lands and ensure that state-owned properties are preserved for national development and the benefit of future generations.
