The National Theatre of Ghana was filled to capacity on Sunday, June 21, as parents, families, partners, and supporters gathered for Sparkle Day 2026, the 10th anniversary production of Vivie’s Dance and Theatre Academy (VDTA).

Under the theme “EvoluXion: Find X,” the event showcased a decade of nurturing creativity, discipline, confidence, and leadership among children and young people through the performing arts.

The production attracted distinguished guests including Creative Entrepreneur Chief Moomen of the Bambu Centre, government officials, ambassadors, and members of the diplomatic community.

From the opening scenes, the audience was captivated by performances blending dance, acrobatics, taekwondo, music, and drama. Young performers demonstrated months of preparation and discipline, delivering emotionally rich and technically impressive routines.

Highlights included the moving “Home and Church” ballet sequences, a daring skating performance, and the powerful group choreography titled “The X,” which showcased the academy’s multidisciplinary training approach.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening came when some of the youngest performers stumbled during their routines. Instead of disappointment, the audience responded with loud applause and encouragement, reinforcing the event’s message that Sparkle Day celebrates growth, courage, and resilience rather than perfection.

The grand finale by “The X” brought the entire theatre to its feet. The ensemble delivered a high-energy fusion of ballet, contemporary dance, African dance, drama, acrobatics, and taekwondo, earning a standing ovation.

Beyond the stage performances, the event also honoured families, partner schools, and supporters who have contributed to VDTA’s growth over the past decade. Many recipients were visibly moved as they received recognition for their commitment to the academy’s mission.

In her anniversary address, Founder and CEO Vivian Boateng reflected on the academy’s 10-year journey and its broader vision for youth development through the arts.

She emphasised Africa’s rising global influence and the role of young creatives in shaping the future, noting that VDTA students are being equipped not only as performers but also as communicators, collaborators, and leaders.

She also unveiled the “10K Legacy Project,” an ambitious initiative aimed at expanding access to performing arts education while training and certifying arts educators to strengthen the creative economy and create sustainable opportunities for young people.

Messages of appreciation from parents and partners highlighted the academy’s impact on children’s confidence, discipline, and personal development, with many describing the production as one of the most inspiring youth performances they had witnessed.

As VDTA celebrates its 10th anniversary, Sparkle Day 2026 stands as both a showcase of artistic excellence and a symbol of its long-term commitment to transforming lives through performing arts education.
