Weija Children’s Hospital Set for Opening After EOCO-Brokered Handover Agreement

The Weija Children’s Hospital is expected to be opened to the public soon after the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited reached an agreement for the immediate handover of the completed facility.

The agreement was facilitated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), which announced in a statement issued on Thursday, July 16, that the two parties had agreed to proceed with the transfer of the hospital to allow healthcare services to begin.

EOCO explained that the decision was reached despite unresolved matters surrounding the project, including claims by the contractor over unpaid amounts and concerns from the project’s financier regarding procurement processes and related issues.

The anti-corruption agency said the priority was to ensure that the completed hospital begins serving its intended purpose without further delays, allowing children and families to access specialised healthcare services.

EOCO noted that its ongoing investigations into allegations of procurement breaches, financial irregularities and other concerns linked to the project will continue and will not be affected by the handover agreement.

The office commended the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited for their cooperation and commitment to prioritising the national interest in reaching the resolution.
