Ghana Unveils First Electric Heavy-Duty Tipper Truck as Big Aidoo Orders 10 Units

Ghana has taken a major step towards sustainable transportation with the introduction of its first fully electric heavy-duty tipper truck, as Big Aidoo Construction Limited became the first company to purchase the vehicles with an order for ten units.

The truck, launched by Zonda Tec Ghana in collaboration with SINOTRUK, is designed to offer construction and mining companies a zero-emission alternative to traditional diesel-powered tipper trucks, ushering electric mobility into Ghana’s heavy-duty transport sector.

Speaking at the launch, Zonda Tec Ghana’s Marketing Director, Jelly Bai, said the electric trucks are expected to help businesses cut fuel and maintenance costs while supporting environmental sustainability.

She explained that, unlike diesel-powered vehicles, electric trucks require less routine servicing, making them a more cost-effective option for operators while also reducing carbon emissions.

According to SINOTRUK Ghana Sales Manager Tong Changxu, the V7-X Electric Tipper is powered by a 340-kilowatt electric motor that generates approximately 462 horsepower. It is equipped with a 400-kilowatt-hour battery capable of covering between 170 and 180 kilometres on a full load.

He added that, with adequate charging infrastructure, the trucks could significantly lower operating costs and improve efficiency for fleet operators.

The launch also marked the truck’s first major commercial sale, with Big Aidoo Construction Limited placing an order for ten units, signalling growing confidence in electric heavy-duty vehicles within Ghana’s construction industry.

Wisdom Hedidor, Personal Assistant to the company’s Chief Executive Officer, said the decision to acquire the trucks reflects the company’s trust in the technology and its confidence in Zonda Tec’s products and services, despite the technology being new to the Ghanaian market.
