The Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has distributed 400 streetlights to eight electoral areas in the constituency as part of efforts to improve security, enhance visibility and support community development.
The beneficiary areas are Bantama Ahenbronum, Abrepo Junction, North Suntreso, Adoato-Adumanu, Bohyen-Ampabame, Abrepo Mpatasie, Kokoso-Asubonteng and Ohwim Amanfrom.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony held at his Constituency Office in Bantama on Thursday, August 6, 2026, Mr. Asenso-Boakye said several communities continue to experience inadequate street lighting despite previous investments in the sector.
He disclosed that since assuming office five years ago, more than 5,000 streetlights have been supplied and installed across the constituency to improve public safety and support economic activities.
The MP, however, expressed concern over the increasing cases of theft, vandalism and damage to installed streetlights, noting that measures are being implemented to curb the problem.
“We are aware of the challenges affecting the streetlights, including theft and damage, and we are taking steps to resolve them. I will continue to provide streetlights whenever the need arises to ensure that our communities remain safe and well-lit,” he said.
Mr. Asenso-Boakye tasked the eight Assembly Members, the eight New Patriotic Party (NPP) Electoral Area Chairpersons and the incoming Constituency Chairman with ensuring the equitable distribution and proper installation of the streetlights.
Each of the eight electoral areas received 50 streetlights, with local leaders urged to identify strategic locations where the lighting will have the greatest impact.
According to the MP, the initiative is expected to improve security, reduce crime and enhance the quality of life for residents.
He also highlighted several development projects undertaken in the constituency, including road construction, health infrastructure, AstroTurf facilities and other community projects.
In addition, Mr. Asenso-Boakye announced plans to introduce financial support for market women to help them expand their businesses.
Recalling his personal background, he said his mother, a petty trader, played a vital role in funding his education, inspiring his commitment to empowering women in business.
“My mother was a petty trader, and through her hard work she was able to support my education and bring me this far. Supporting market women is one of the ways we can empower families and promote economic growth,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of the Assembly Members, Amoako Asante Francis, Chairman of the Assembly Members and Assembly Member for the Kokoso–Asubonteng Electoral Area, commended the MP for his continued investment in the constituency, expressing confidence that the new streetlights would improve security, enhance night-time visibility and contribute to socio-economic development.
