Residents of Kumasi and nearby communities will face temporary water supply interruptions as Ghana Water Limited (GWL) undertakes essential maintenance works at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant from June 9 to June 11, 2026.
In a statement issued on June 5, GWL explained that the shutdown, scheduled from 6:00 a.m. on June 9 to 6:00 a.m. on June 11, will allow repairs on a transmission pipeline to improve the safety and reliability of water delivery.
The company noted that the maintenance is necessary to ensure long-term efficiency and sustainability of water services in the Ashanti Region, adding that the works are aimed at protecting the integrity of the pipeline system.
GWL has advised residents and businesses to store enough water ahead of the shutdown to reduce inconvenience and has apologised for any disruption caused.
The utility provider assured the public that water supply will resume immediately after the maintenance is completed and urged customers to stay updated through its official communication channels.
