Ghana’s global music trailblazer, Black Sherif (@blacksherif_), has officially been nominated for the 2025 BET Awards in the prestigious Best International Act category — making history as the first Ghanaian artist to be recognized in this category since the BET Awards restructured it in 2018.

Renowned for his raw storytelling, soulful delivery, and genre-defying sound, Black Sherif’s nomination marks a monumental moment not just for his career, but for Ghanaian music at large. It reflects his meteoric rise from breakout star to global icon, powered by emotionally charged anthems like “Kwaku The Traveller,” “Second Sermon,” and tracks off his debut album The Villain I Never Was.

In 2018, BET merged its previously separate Best International Act: Africa and Best International Act: UK categories into a single, more competitive global category. Since then, no Ghanaian act has secured a spot — until now. Black Sherif’s nomination signals the impact he has made far beyond Ghana’s borders, connecting deeply with audiences across continents.

This year’s BET Awards, known for honoring Black excellence in music, entertainment, and sports, will shine an international spotlight on Sherif as he stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the biggest global names in music.

Fans, industry stakeholders, and fellow artists have already taken to social media to celebrate the nomination — a true testament to Sherif’s authenticity, lyrical power, and ability to tell stories that resonate universally.

As the countdown to the awards night begins, the energy is electric across Ghana and the African music diaspora.

Congratulations to Black Sherif — a voice of the new generation, flying the flag high.
