Chelsea FC Sack Liam Rosenior After Poor Run of Results

Chelsea have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior just 106 days into his tenure following a string of disappointing results.

Rosenior, who joined from RC Strasbourg Alsace on a long-term deal, managed only 11 wins in 23 matches. His departure comes after a 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, marking Chelsea’s fifth straight league defeat without scoring — their worst goal drought since 1912.

The poor form has seen the club drop to seventh place in the Premier League, leaving them seven points adrift of Liverpool FC in the race for a Champions League spot. Following the Brighton defeat, Rosenior admitted the performance was “indefensible” and “unacceptable,” amid frustration from travelling supporters.

In a statement, Chelsea acknowledged Rosenior’s professionalism but said recent performances had not met expectations, making the decision necessary despite its difficulty.

The club is reportedly considering several candidates for the role, including Andoni Iraola of AFC Bournemouth, Marco Silva of Fulham FC, and former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzić.

Assistant coach Calum McFarlane has been appointed interim manager until the end of the season. His first match in charge will be against Leeds United at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final.

Rosenior’s short stint included five wins in 13 league games and a run to the FA Cup semi-finals, although those cup victories came against lower-division teams. Chelsea say they will now reflect carefully before making a long-term managerial appointment.
