Mr. Yakubu Faharudeen, a former Acting General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has expressed confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s plans to use the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industries as a vehicle for economic transformation.

Mr. Faharudeen mentioned that Mahama’s policies, particularly in agriculture and industrialization, could provide the essential boost to drive Ghana’s economy forward, saying agribusiness remains the backbone of Ghana’s economy, and President Mahama’s vision to reform key agricultural structures was commendable.

“I am linking this to Dr Nkrumah; when he wanted to link trade and agriculture because of the nature of our country, we have arable lands that when we invest more into agriculture, the economy is going to grow faster, and I see His Excellency John Dramani Mahama trying to bring that thing back,” he stated.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that prioritising reforms in agriculture, especially around value addition for exportation, would create sustainable employment opportunities and development, and therefore urged all stakeholders, including the private sector, to collaborate with the government to ensure the success of these initiatives.

He added that the appointment of the ministers was timely, stressing that the reduction of the number of ministries was also very important, emphasizing that Mahama’s administration had demonstrated a clear understanding of the structural challenges facing the country.

He praised President Mahama for prioritizing youth inclusion in key ministerial positions, describing the move as a progressive and bold step toward empowering the next generation and addressing Ghana’s development challenges.

Mr. Faharudeen also applauded the President for his dedication to gender inclusivity through the appointment of women to key leadership roles, adding that it would boost women’s confidence in their quest to be represented in national decision-making processes. He stated that President Mahama had previously been at the helm of affairs and expressed confidence that he had learnt from his past mistakes and was prepared to lead the country to greater heights.
