The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has issued Air Tanzania a Validated Foreign Air Operator Certificate, allowing the airline to commence commercial flights between Dar es Salaam and Accra.

In addition, the airline received an Authorisation Certificate for the Transport of Dangerous Goods.

Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Acting Director-General of the GCAA, presented the certificates to an Air Tanzania delegation at a ceremony held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the GCAA Headquarters, Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

The delegation was led by Mr. Selestine Kakele, Tanzania’s High Commissioner-Designate to Ghana, who is based in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Validated Foreign Air Operator Certificate (VFAOC) authorises a foreign carrier to operate commercial air transport services within Ghana’s airspace, confirming compliance with both local and international aviation safety standards.

The Dangerous Goods Authorization Certificate certifies that the airline meets global requirements for the safe handling, packaging, and transportation of hazardous materials by air.

Rev. Arthur welcomed Air Tanzania’s entry into Ghana’s aviation sector, saying it aligns with the government’s commitment to enhance air connectivity within the African subregion. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to revive Ghana’s national airline and transform Ho Airport into a leading training hub for aviation professionals.

He further noted that Air Tanzania’s operations in Ghana advance the goals of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), a key African Union Agenda 2063 initiative aimed at liberalising air transport, fostering economic integration, and promoting intra-African trade and tourism.

Mr. Kakele remarked that the commencement of flights to Accra reflects the deep and historic ties between Ghana and Tanzania, founded on shared struggles for independence and Pan-African ideals. He added that the new route presents a strategic opportunity to strengthen regional connectivity and advance continental integration.
