Accra, Ghana — The Ghana Enterprises Agency is leveraging its partnership with the United States Virgin Islands to create new opportunities for Ghanaian SMEs to expand beyond the local market.
During a televised discussion on Channel One TV, GEA CEO Margaret Ansei said the agency sees clear value in the collaboration, especially at a time when Ghana is looking to scale production, strengthen enterprise development and find external markets for local goods.
She noted that GEA, as the government agency mandated to promote and develop micro, small and medium enterprises, is focused not only on helping businesses grow, but also on helping them find destination markets for their products.
The USVI engagement is expected to provide Ghanaian entrepreneurs and business owners with insight into new export and trade channels, particularly as the visiting delegation has described the Virgin Islands as a strategic link to the wider U.S. market.
For many SMEs, access remains one of the biggest barriers to growth. GEA appears to be positioning this partnership as a response to that challenge — one that could help local enterprises transition from domestic producers to international traders.
The agency is expected to play a leading role in bringing Ghanaian businesses into the June 12 reception, where direct conversations around trade, investment and business cooperation are expected to take place.
