The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially ended all negotiations with Chinese pay-TV broadcaster StarTimes over the renewal of its media broadcast rights deal. This follows the expiration of the previous contract at the end of the 2023/24 football season.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the GFA confirmed that discussions aimed at renewing the agreement were terminated in March 2025 after both parties failed to reach consensus on the terms.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to inform its members, partners, and the general public that it officially ended all negotiations with StarTimes on the renewal of the Media Broadcast Rights agreement in March 2025,” the statement said.

As part of the fallout, the GFA has revealed that StarTimes owes an outstanding amount of USD 842,173.36 under the previous contract.

The Association has retained legal counsel and initiated formal procedures to recover the debt.

The GFA expressed its continued commitment to securing a new media rights partner that offers transparency, fairness, and value to all stakeholders—including clubs, fans, and the broader football community.
The Association is now expected to open bids for a new broadcast deal ahead of the next season.
