Ghana and Denmark have entered into a new partnership to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Osu in Accra, reinforcing the longstanding historical ties between the two countries.

The collaboration begins with a GH¢1.7 million project involving the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, the University of Ghana, and the National Museum of Denmark.

The initiative will focus on documenting important historical sites, digitising cultural records, and installing heritage markers to enhance public awareness of Osu’s historical significance.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the project is intended to preserve cultural memory, deepen understanding of the shared history between Ghana and Denmark, and safeguard valuable heritage sites for future generations.

The partnership is also expected to support plans for the establishment of a museum and memorial at Osu Castle, one of Ghana’s most significant historical landmarks.

Officials say the initiative will create new opportunities for education, research, and cultural tourism, while encouraging greater appreciation of the historical relationship between Ghana and Denmark.

The project forms part of broader efforts to preserve Ghana’s cultural heritage and promote historical education as a means of fostering dialogue, remembrance, and national identity.
