The Ghana Italian Women and Men Association (GIWA) and partners have donated over 2,000 educational furniture to 18 schools in the Greater Accra and Western Regions.

The schools included Ankyinyin M/A, Dadwen M/A, Allasunah Islamic, Axim Roman Catholic and Gomoa Nyanyano basic schools in the Western Region and Roman Catholic basic school at Afuaman, Reign Jay Community school, Don Bosco training institute and Holy Rosary catholic school in Greater Accra.

Madam Rosaria Leone Baldi, President GIWA, noted that most of the schools struggled with inadequate classroom furniture, with some students having to sit on broken chairs or cement blocks during lessons.

She expressed gratitude to Antonella Tiritto and the two Italian schools—Instituto Politeama and Istituto Levi di Montalcini in Palermo—for their generous contribution of the furniture.

Madam Baldi, thanked the various partners who specifically supported the transportation, such as Grimaldi Shipping Lines, which shipped five containers from Italy to Ghana, and Catholic Relief Services, Mr Kwasi Ayim Darke, Mr Nii Amaa Ollenu and Barbisotti and Sons for their support in the clearing, storage, and distribution.

She expressed the hope that the gesture would go a long way to improve the educational experience and standards for thousands of school children across the two regions.

GIWA is a non-profit organization led by volunteer members of the Italian community residing in Ghana helping to improve the lives of people in Ghana, particularly women, children, and marginalized groups.

The core focus areas are access to education, socio-economic opportunities, and social inclusion. GIWA fulfills its mission by supporting local initiatives, NGOs, and schools working with these groups by providing financial and in-kind support.

Madam Juliana Apaliyah, Headmistress of St. Augustine R/C JHS in Ashaiman, expressed gratitude, noting that the 100 chairs, 60 double desks, and a board was timely received, adding it would address the needs of the students.
